Kanpur: Nearly 25 people were injured after a State Road Transport Corporation bus (SRTC) fell off the bridge near Azad Marg bypass on Kanpur-Lucknow highway in Unnao district.


The injured passengers of the bus have been admitted to the district hospital, where the doctors stated condition of seven to be critical. According to the police, the incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday when an SRTC bus of Kanpur’s

Azad Nagar depot was heading to Kanpur from Lucknow when its driver lost control over the vehicle and the bus fell off the bridge at Azad Marg intersection.

Out of the 35 passengers on the bus, 25 were injured, seven among them sustained critical wounds. The police, on being informed, rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the district hospital with the help of locals in the ambulances. Few among the critical were referred to Kanpur.

The police said that the accident took place around 2am. “Following the incident, there was panic and chaos among the passengers.

On hearing loud shrieks, locals rushed to the spot and with the help of police pulled out the stranded passengers from the bus and transported them to the district hospital with the help of locals in the ambulances

Few among them have been referred to Kanpur,” said the police. The passengers alleged that the driver was driving the bus at a very high speed.“Despite being warned, the driver continued to drive the bus rashly, which led to the mishap,”they alleged further.

“After investigation, action will be taken against the driver,” said ASP Shashishekhar Singh.
