How his Journey begins..
Tilak went to his uncle’s place one day for whatever reason. And then he returned to his own home. In his uncle’s house, he forgets his math book. However, he required this book immediately due to an upcoming exam.
His father, who had arrived late that night, was exhausted and unable to deliver the book to his daughter.
Tilak inquired of his father about using the courier to return the book from his uncle’s place. However, courier fees for same-day delivery are as much as the book price.
This is the time at which Tilak’s concept of starting his own logistics and providing courier services at a fair fee germinated.
He went off on his own, delivering the courier in his own way.
After some time, he and his colleagues join the dabbawala, where they take and deliver orders.
How his Startup Works ??
So, if the dabbawala transports the courier from the sender to the receiver, they are paid a commission based on the distance he travels.
Mumbai is divided into 60 rings by him.
The Paper n Parcel functioning system was as follows.
Assume you need to send an object from point A to point B. And his company has several circles between locations A and B, such as (A1, A2, A3, and so on).
As a result, the sender gives the book to A, and A accepts it. A1 sends the book to A2, and A2 sends the book to A1. A2 to A3 is the same way, and it will be shortly.
And at first, the paper-N-parcel service was only available in Mumbai.
In 2018, he was named “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” at the India Maritime Awards.
Some Key secrets for his great Success
- The contract with ‘Mumbai Dabbawala’ is based on a commission for each successful delivery, rather than recruiting personnel on a predetermined pay. ‘Dabbawala’ receives a notification on his smartphone app anytime a new delivery order is made, as well as a commission for a successful delivery. They do not have to incur losses for ups and downs, such as during Corona Vira’s lockdown, when everything was shut down, and they do not have to worry about employee pay with this commission-based business model.
- Tilak Mehta created the company while he was only 13 years old, and it won him extensive media attention and popular support. Many large media outlets covered his tale, and as a result, his company gained a lot of free advertising. He has now established himself as a brand, and everyone in Mumbai is familiar with him and the services provided by his company.
Read out the statement of Young Genius (Tilak) about his idea..
“I was thinking about this for days and when I saw a dabbawala in my building, the idea for Papers N Parcel struck. I always marveled at the swiftness and the efficiency of the dabbawala’s food delivery network, and I wondered if the network could be used to allow deliveries of even non-food items,”.
